Louis XIV Towle Sterling Silver Handle Dinner Knife Set 8 Bullard Bros St Paul This is a "Louis XIV" pattern by Towle sterling silver handle dinner knife set of 8. The handles are marked, " sterling handle patent 1924" and blades are marked, "stainless". The knives measure 9 3/8" long. The Louis XIV pattern was designed by Towle's top designer Harold E. Nock (1874-1952). He developed over 25 patterns for Towle and was granted close to 50 patents covering nearly every aspect of the industry. He was employed at Towle 1916-1950. The elegant Louis XIV pattern premiered in 1924. The anti-tarnish cloth wrap holds each knife in separate pocket. The exterior of the bag has label that reads, "Dinner Knives". The bag has embroidered label of original seller of the knives, " Bullard Bros., Jewelers and Silversmiths, St. Paul". This company operated 1870-1950's. It was a prestigious company that carried and manufactured top quality items. The company produced a ceremonial silver towel used in construction of the Minnesota State Capitol Building.
